Early LifeEdit

The eldest of 7 children, Traynor was born to a rural grocer in the province of Ruria. As a child, he attended a local rural school. At the age of 12 he won a scholarship to a private secondary school. He did well in school and was able to win a place at Santa Maria college, where he studied history. In 1931 he married Mary Ogden. His first son was born the next year. He graduated with a Bachelors in History and went to Teacher Training College. He qualified at a teacher and began teaching history at his old school in Santa Maria. Upon the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, he enlisted in the armed forces. He was made a squadron leader, and saw action in France and North Africa. He was promoted to captain in 1942 and participated in the D-Day landings in 1944. Following the end of the war in 1945, he returned home to Abala.

Entry into PoliticsEdit

In 1945 he was nominated by the Progressive Conservative Party to stand for the seat of Nicolea Heath. He won easily. The Progressive Conservatives, however, lost the election, and Traynor went to the backbenches. He made a name for himself there as a rabid anti-Communist. He was an adept debater and came across as a principled, if slightly regressive man. He was promoted to the Shadow Cabinet in 1947, as Shadow Minister for Justice. The PC's won the 1950 election on the back of a slim majority and Traynor was appointed Minister for Justice.

In GovernmentEdit

Traynor was an effecient and hardworking Minister. He reformed inheritance rights to give widows property rights and introduced new regulations on the death penalty. He was moved to the Department of Industry and Commerce in 1953. The PC's lost power in 1955 and Traynor was out of power again.

Minister for Foreign AffairsEdit

The PC's were swept to power in 1960 and Traynor was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs. His greatest success was to take Abala into the UN. He also signed the General Agreement on Tarriffs and Trade (GATT) in 1964. He was considered an excellent Minister, with an internationalist vision. However, in 1966 he made a major blunder by threatening to leave the Commonwealth. This went down very badly with the Abalan public and Traynor was forced to back down.

Minister for FinanceEdit

Despite this mistake, Traynor was appointed Minister for Finance in 1969. He cut taxes in his first year and managed to rein in a large surplus. However, the oil crisis forced him to introduce austere measures. Due to the state of the economy, the PC's were defeated in the 1973 election. He served as Shadow Minister for Finance in Opposition and critised what he termed "the Government's loose and wholly wrong-headed approach to the economy, which places short term popularity before the long-term economic benefit of this nation." The PC's narrowly won the 1977 election and Traynor was back in power. He still serves and Minister for Finance.

Premiership Edit

Following the resignation of Sir William Kenny, Oscar Traynor was elected Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party unanimously. He formed a government on the 12th of May 1978.
