Early Life
Edit
Roland Nicolas Francesco Knightly was born on the 26th of April 1947 to British politician Sir Horatio Knightly and his half-Abalan wife, Maria Elena Knightly nee Jovanelli, in the commercial centre of Canalton, St. Laurence. Roland was a wunderkind, his exceptional charisma and intelligence developing quickly over the years at Santa Maria College, Port Saint Laurence as a day student and maturing during his time at the same Boarding School. It was enough for him to attain a place in the renowned St. Stanislao University at St. Stanislao College in St. Stanislao. At this university, Roland became a member of a young group of Progressive Conservatives, the party of which his father was a member.
President of Conservative Progress (1967-1968)
Edit
After the merger of several Conservative youth organisations into Conservative Progress, among which the Young Progressive Conservatives of which Roland was a member, Roland was elected their first President. During his time as President, Roland gained recognition as the voice of the youth of the Tories, which advocated a move to the centre ground of politics and into youthful idealism. It was also in Conservative Progress that Roland met Christina Locke, whom he would later fall in love with and marry. During his time, he also sat ever so briefly on the Port Saint Laurence City Council.
From Bureaucrat to Aide (1968-1969)
Edit
Over the two years following his graduation from St. Stanislas, Roland had several jobs. Roland first became a junior Civil Servant in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working for his keep and helping the Government enact its policies regardless of his own opinion. He was a dutiful Civil Servant, but somewhere, he kept feeling this was not the right job. Nevertheless, he pushed on with dedication. He quit within the year and became a researcher for the Tories.
In the meantime, he was building a positive relationship with the party's leader, William Kenny. Kenny recognised Roland's talent and in it the future of the party, and became a mentor to the young politician, moulding his ideals into maturity a little bit. A strong personal friendship was growing alongside the professional relationship they shared as Party Leader and former youth movement President. In 1969, Kenny offered Roland a job as his personal aide and Roland became his protege.
Roland campaigned tirelessly on behalf of the Progressive Conservatives in his home town of Port Saint Laurence, together with his sister Anna, who had taken an interest in Municipal Politics. Roland's time would come just a year later, when Parliament was dissolved and he contested the seat of Port Saint Laurence Lagune, a safe seat that had been vacated by its previous occupant, Mattheo Leonards. He, unsurprisingly, won election.
Minister of Education, Science and Cultural Affairs (1972-1973)
Edit
After just 2 years on the backbenches, the first Kenny Ministry had a vacancy at Education, Science and Cultural Affairs, a portfolio that needed appealing to the youth. Roland was offered the position because of his youth and his half-Abalan background, being able to bring together native Abalan culture and English, as well as speak both English and Abalese. After the Tories lost the 1973 Election to the Social Democrats, Roland became Shadow Minister for the same position, and would later shadow Foreign Affairs, when his predecessor, Lisanne Marison retired from Parliament.
Minister of Foreign Affairs (1977-present)
Edit
Roland currently serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kenny Ministry. A pro-European, he is preparing arrangements for Abala to enter into the European Union.
